A letter from Artistic Director Norbert Nielubowski

Norbert NielubowskiTo our loyal Musical Offering audience,

Attached is a note from Paula DeCosse of the group Orchestrate Excellence.  This is a group of committed Twin Cities classical music lovers who are concerned about the now 5 month long lock out of the Minnesota Orchestra and St. Paul Chamber Orchestra musicians.    As Paula mentions, this action is not only harming the Minnesota Orchestra and the SPCO, but also the many chamber music groups who rely on Minnesota Orchestra and SPCO musicians.

The Musical Offering as already been affected by the loss of our violinist, Peter McGuire, who left in January to become a member of the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra.  We are all saddened to see him go and will miss Peter’s musicianship and collegiality.

Other Musical Offering members are working with the Chicago Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, San Diego Symphony and the Chicago Lyric Opera.  The level of musicianship we have here is recognized world wide.  We are all doing what we can do and must do to survive this unfair assault on our lives, our families and the musical culture of the Twin Cities.

We are grateful to have the talents of Minnesota Orchestra musicians Celine Leathead. violin and Sifei Cheng, viola joining us on our March 17th concert.  We are also happy to be joined by violinist Daria Adams from the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra along with our Musical Offering regulars Jane Garvin, David Pharris, Caroline Lemen, Jim Jacobson and Matt Frischmann for a performance of Irish composer Charles Vlllars Stanford’s Nonet.   Susan Billmeyer also returns to join us in a performance of the Mozart g minor Piano Quartet.

Please take a moment to visit the Orchestrate Excellence website, www.orchestrateexcellence.org,  and offer your support.  The future of classical music music in Minnesota depends on the resolution of the lockouts of both of these great orchestras.

I hope to see you on March 17 at 3:00 pm at Sundin Hall; your continuing support is deeply appreciated!
