Marty was Professor emeritus of the University of Minnesota, supporter of the arts and a fine klezmer clarinetist. He was a guiding hand as the chair of The Musical Offering for over 20 years.
I can only echo the words of our former Artistic Director, Basil Reeve. Marty was a mentor and great friend over the many years I have known him. Whether it was discussing the latest Metropolitan Opera telecast, Mozart, Schubert or Schoenberg, or receiving his hearty congratulations after a concert I will miss his enthusiasm, support and love of music.
Rest well, Marty- we will miss you.
The Musical Offering
It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Marty Dworkin. The dedication, humor and above all patience that he brought to all and everyone he touched was crucial to the development of The Musical Offering’s contribution to the cultural life of the Twin Cities. Although he was a renowned member of the international scientific community and a most distinguished professor at the University of Minnesota he always seemed to have time for the problems of the chamber music group that was so dear to his heart. When all is said and done it was his absolute and uncompromising love of music that made him so effective as our board chair.
Marty was a good friend to me in all things and I consider it a great privilege to have worked with him so closely to bring the sharing of great music to our community. My deepest condolences to his family. Best wishes, Basil
