A Musical Experience You'll Never Forget
Jim Jacobson

Jim Jacobson plays cello for both the Musical Offering and the Minnesota Orchestra

I grew up in the Boston area and studied at the New England Conservatory. After graduation I began my career as a freelance musician. One of my favorite things about being a freelancer is the variety jobs that pop up. You never quite know what will come next.

To date, I’ve played in orchestra concerts, operas, ballets, TV commercials, movie sound tracks, chamber groups, subways, Broadway shows, weddings and funerals, and a Midwest van tour with a contemporary group.

After a brief stint in Florida with the New World Symphony I moved to Minnesota. I wasn’t very busy gigging when I first got to town, so I thought it would be a good time to go to the U of M to get a master’s degree, where every week I looked forward to my lessons with Tanya Remenikova.

Here in Minnesota, I’ve had the pleasure of performing with the Minnesota Orchestra, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Opera, Skylark Opera, Chamber Music Society of Minnesota, Intergalactic Contemporary Ensemble and many other local groups. I enjoy teaching also (especially when students practice), and currently have students at Augsburg College and the University of St. Thomas.

    Hi Jim,

Great concert yesterday (Jan 16th) at Sundin Hall. The Musical Offering is my favorite local chamber group, and I thought yesterday’s concert was your group’s best ever — or at least during the last five years when I have been attending.

You may recall that we spoke at some length after the performance last summer at Camp du Nord. I really enjoy listening to your cello.

    Good luck.
