A candid photo taken by an ensemble member: after his last concert with Minnesota Orchestra last October, Stan exchanges words backstage with Osmo.

It is with great sadness that we learned today of the passing of Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, the former music director of the Minnesota Orchestra.

Maestro Skrowaczewski was an uniquely influential force in the musical life of the Twin Cities in his 19 years as music director of the Minnesota Orchestra. It was through his perseverance that Orchestra Hall was built in 1974 providing a permanent home for the Orchestra.

He conducted the Orchestra for the last time this past October leading a performance of the Eighth Symphony of Anton Bruckner, one of his favorite composers and compositions.

We will miss Stan’s contributions as a conductor, a composer, and an advocate for the importance of music as part of the human soul.
